World Hindi Day 2020

To promote the greatness of the Hindi language, the Ministry of External Affairs and the Department of Official Language under the Ministry of Home Affairs celebrate World Hindi Day annually on the 10th of January, first celebrated in 2006 the day 10th January was chosen to mark the anniversary of first World Hindi Conference organized in 1975 which was inaugurated by the then Prime Minister of India, Indira Gandhi. The eleventh edition of the World Hindi Conference was organized in Mauritius in 2018 and the next edition is scheduled to be organized at Dewas, Madhya Pradesh in September 2021.

World Hindi Day is different from the National Hindi Diwas, which is celebrated on the 14th of September every year to mark the adoption of the official language of the Union by the Constituent Assembly back in 1949 as Hindi written in Devanagari script and to promote the language across the country, whereas the World Hindi Day is observed to promote the language at the global or international level.
