Vinesh Phogat becomes first Indian wrestler to qualify for 2020 Tokyo Olympics

Vinesh Phogat has become the first Indian wrestler to qualify for 2020 Tokyo Olympics in the 53-kg category after beating American Sarah Hildebrandt in the World Championships in Nur Sultan, Kazakhstan on 18th September 2019. She scored an impressive 8-2 win over the world championship silver medalist to secure her place at the Tokyo Games.
2019 edtion of World Bamboo Day (WBD)
The World Bamboo Day (WBD) is celebrated every year on on 18th of September by the World Bamboo Organization to generate awareness about conserving and promoting the bamboo industry. India is the world’s second-largest cultivator of bamboo after China with over 130 species. In the Budget presented in Parliament on July 2019, Government of India (GoI) focused on reviving traditional industries such as bamboo, khadi and honey, through a cluster-based approach. It will be done under the Scheme of Fund for Regeneration of Traditional Industries (SFURTI), which aims to organise such industries and artisans into clusters to make them competitive.
