# ‘Road Accidents in India- 2020’ Report

In a report titled ‘Road accidents in India- 2020′, it has been highlighted that there has been a sharp decline in road accidents in 2020 as compared to 2019. The report has been released by the Ministry of Road Transport & Highways (MoRTH). According to the report, compared to the previous year’s average, total road accidents decreased by 18.46 percent. The number of deaths due to road accidents also decreased by 12.84 percent and the number of injuries also decreased by 22.84 percent.

Also, around 60 percent of the Indian states have reported accident severity that is higher than the national average (36). The national average of the country increased to 36 in 2020 from 33.7 in 2019, the highest in the last two decades. In 2000, it was 20.2.

The nation’s young adults in the18-45 age group accounted for 70 percent of the total victims in 2020. People in the 18-60 working-age group have accounted for 86 percent of all total fatalities related to road accidents.
