PM-KISAN Scheme: 17,793 crores released to 8.89 farmers

On April 20, 2020, the Government of India released 17,793 crores of rupees to 8.89 crores of farmers under Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samman Nidhi Scheme.

The Government has credited the amount in order to help farmers during the lock down. Also, the GoI is distributing free pulses under Pradhan Mantri Garib Kalyan Yojana. Under the scheme, the distribution of rice and wheat under the PDS (Public Distribution System) has been increased to 7 kg. So far, 1.07 lakh metric tonnes of pulses have been distributed to the states and union territories under the scheme.

The PM-KISAN was launched in February, 2019. The scheme is being implemented by all the states except for West Bengal. The scheme is funded 100% by the central government. Under the scheme, the GoI transfers Rs 6,000 per year to the farmers’ bank accounts in three installments. All the land holding farmers are eligible to become a beneficiary of the scheme.
