Nord stream 2 is a 1,200km long pipeline project connecting Russia’s Ust-Luga with Germany’s Greifswald. This controversial project is capable of carrying 55 billion cubic metres of gas in a year. It is being built alongside the Nordic Stream 1 pipeline together with which it will be supplying 110 billion cubic metres of gas per year to Germany. It was decided upon in 2015 by Gazprom, the Russian energy major and 5 other European energy firms. Recently, work on the project was resumed despite US sanctions.
