National Highways Excellence Awards-2021

The National Highways Excellence Awards 2021 was organised by Ministry of Road Transport and Highways (MoRTH) at Vigyan Bhavan in Delhi.

Key Points

  • This event was organised under “Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav”.
  • It was organised under the theme “Innovation and Excellence in Road Construction”.
  • On the occasion, Speaker of Lok Sabha Om Birla appreciated the achievements made in highways infrastructure sector and hoped that India will achieve new heights in coming years.
  • These awards will inspire and infuse energy among engineers and workers who are involved in highway construction.
  • During the event, awards were presented to concessionaire or contractors working in construction, innovation, greenery, operations & maintenance, tolling stages of highway development and in the arena of road safety for 2021 award cycle.
  • 122 nominations were received, out of this 89 were found to be valid. Lastly, 58 nominations were shortlisted. 37 nominations were selected for Field Assessment.
  • Finally, 13 nominations were selected for the awards.

Objectives of the Awards

The National Highways Excellence Awards 2021 were presented with the objective of appreciating and rewarding those who have done well in constructing good highways. This will also motivate those who may not have got the award.

Adoption of new technologies

Ministry of Road Transport and Highways (MoRTH) have been taking measures to adopt new technologies to ensure improvement in quality of highways. Developers of the highways are being encouraged to use new designs and innovative technologies.

Panel discussion on “Frontiers in road safety”

There were panel discussions on “Frontiers in road safety”. This discussion was attended by NHAI Chairperson Alka Upadhyaya.   Panel discussions on Design of Special Structures, Innovative Technologies for Slope Stabilization in Hill Roads, Design of Road & Geotechnical Engineering, Innovative Pavement Materials and Innovations in Geospatial Technology were also held.
