Leonel Messi wins 6th Golden Shoe award

Barcelona FC captain Leonel Messi won the Golden Shoe for the 2018/19 season, for being the top scorer in the European leagues with 36 goals (in 34 games). This is his sixth Golden Shoe.

Messi has won the trophy for a 3rd straight year (or consecutively) after scoring 36 goals. His goals are only three more than his closest challenger, Kylian Mbappe of Paris Saint-Germain.

Leonel Messi now has two more Golden Shoes than his legendary rival Cristiano Ronaldo, a Portuguese professional footballer.

About European Golden Shoe (or European Golden Boot)

The award was originally called Soulier d’Or, which in French translates means as Golden Shoe/Boot. The award was created in the 1967–68 season when it was won by Eusebio. Since 1996–97 season the award is given by European Sports Media.

This award trophy is in shape of a football boot and is presented each season to leading goal scorer in league matches from top division of every European national league.
