Gujarat ‘Mission School of Excellence Project’

The Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank (AIIB) and the World Bank will be providing a Rs 7,500 crore loan for the government of Gujarat’s Mission School of Excellence project.

Overview:

  • A World Bank delegation visited Gandhinagar to gather information and study the School of Excellence project.
  • This delegation was led by Jaime Saavedra, the bank’s Global Education Director.
  • The state’s education department’s command and control centre was also visited by the delegation.

About the command and control centre

The command and control centre was launched recently and is an interactive platform that is being used by the state’s education department to monitor the quality of education and the attendance of the teachers and students. Through this centre e-learning projects are also being provided to the schools.

About Mission School of Excellence Project

This project aims to improve the education quality in the state. Under this mission, the state government of Gujarat has plans to spend Rs 10,000 crore over the next five years. All the 5,847 grant-in-aid and 35,133 government schools will be covered under this mission in the state. Also, importance will be given to the bilingual mode of teaching. The meritorious students in these schools will also be recognized and nurtured.

What will the funds be used for?

The funds received will be spent on creating 1,50,000 lakh smart classrooms and building 20,000 new computer labs, 50,000 new classrooms, and 5,000 tinkering labs in around 41,000 grant-in-aid and government schools across Gujarat. This project will benefit around one crore school students in the next five years.
