DNA Technology (Use and Application) Regulation Bill, 2019

DNA Technology (Use and Application) Regulation Bill seeks to minimise errors in the criminal investigation and prosecution system through the use of DNA technology. It recently received clearance from the Parliamentary Standing Committee on Science and Technology. However, the committee has flagged concerns over possible abuse of DNA technology and risks of the national database of crime scene DNA profiles having everyone’s DNA from the crime scene regardless of their connection to the crime.
