As per the latest National Sample Survey Office (NSSO) sanitation survey in rural areas, Sikkim has been adjudged the cleanest state in India, followed by Kerala, Mizoram, Himachal Pradesh, Nagaland, Haryana, Punjab, Uttarakhand, Manipur, etc. The ranking is given on the basis of percentage of households having sanitary toilets and using them (either household or community toilets). The results of survey have been released by Union Rural Development Minister Narendra Singh Tomar in New Delhi.
