Surjit Singh Barnala (91), the former chief minister of Punjab, has recently passed away in Chandigarh. He was the first Governor of Uttarakhand from its creation in 2000. Beside this, he holds the post of Governor in many states viz. Andhra Pradesh, Odisha, Tamil Nadu, etc. He also served with distinction as member of the Union Council of Ministers and will be always remembered for the strong stance he took against the forces of extremism and the struggle he waged against terrorists and anti national forces in India.
