Ornithologist
Lavkumar Khachar was a renowned conservationist, ornithologist and pioneer of environmental education in the country. Khachar will be remembered as environmental educationist who brought thousands of common people close to nature and inspired them to take up the nature and wildlife conservation across the country. He has done pioneering work in bird watching and teaching ornithology to armatures. As member of the National and Gujarat State Wildlife Boards, Khachar was the first to insist on seeking people’s opinion on lion translocation. As education officer of World Wildlife Fund-India, he is best known for initiating a lot of programs for environmental education in the country way back in 1970s.
