Notes: Dnyaneshwar, born in Maharashtra in 1275, was Muktabai’s elder brother and the first Varkari saint. He authored the ‘Dnyaneshwari’ and played a key role in the Bhakti movement. Other siblings were Nivruttinath and Sopan. He was a Deshastha Brahmin and linked with the Varkari tradition.
