Notes: The Ryotwari system of land revenue was introduced in the Madras Presidency by Governor Sir Thomas Munro during 1820- 1827. After that, it was adopted in Bombay and Assam. The excerpts of the Ryotwari system are-
a) there was a direct relation between the landholder and the British Government.
b) Farmers could use, sell, mortgage, bequeath, and lease the land as long as they paid their taxes. In other words, Ryotwari
system gave a proprietary rights upon the landholders.
c) If farmers did not pay taxes, they were evicted.
