What is Baseline Testing?

Baseline means the standard which usually lies at the base of every creation. Baseline Testing, thus, stands for validating various documents and specifications which go into designing the test cases. In software testing, it means gauging the functioning of the application during the course of which many problems are found and discovered.

The testing is generally undertaken by testing engineers. It helps to define standards and relative performance of a new application with a known standard by measuring its characteristics and requirements.  It does not focus on any specific function but instead the quality characteristics of the application on the whole.
