Vodafone and Idea launches integrated brand identity ‘Vi’

An integrated brand identity – Vi has been announced by Vodafone and Idea which is pronounced ‘we’. The new brand is having the tagline ‘Together for Tomorrow’.
Vodafone is a British telecommunications company. Global headquarters of the company is based in London, England. It in Asia, Africa, Europe, and Oceania. As of 2020, Vodafone has operated networks in 24 countries and is planning to settle networks in 41 more countries.
Idea Cellular Limited was an Indian mobile network operator. It was based at Mumbai, Maharashtra. It was a pan-India GSM network. It was incorporated as Birla Communications Limited in 1995. The name was later changed to Idea Cellular and the Idea brand was introduced in 2002.
Vodafone idea merger
The call on merging the two brands was taken in March 2017 and it got merged in 2018 from the Department of Telecommunications. The merger was finalised by National Company Law Tribunal on August 30, 2018 and was names as Vodafone Idea Limited. The merger made the new company the largest telecom company in India by subscribers and revenue. The Vodafone Group holds a 45.2% stake, the Aditya Birla Group holds 26% and the public holds the remaining shares. Entry of JIO in 2016 led to the merger of these two companies.
National Company Law Tribunal
The National Company Law Tribunal or NCLT is a quasi-judicial body in India that deals with the issues of companies in the country. As per the provisions of the Companies Act 2013, NCLT was formed on June 1, 2016.
