Veteran Marathi theatre artist Atmaram Bhende passes away

Veteran Marathi theatre artist and film actor Atmaram Bhende has passed away in Pune, Maharashtra. He was 91.
He was considered the doyen of Marathi experimental theatre and had graced the Marathi stage for more than six decades.

About Atmaram Bhende

Atmaram Bhende was born in May 1923. He was affectionately called as Bapu by colleagues and coworkers.
He was a qualified engineer from Veermata Jijabai Technological Institute (VJTI), Mumbai.
Between 1954-60s, he was the Joint Secretary of the Marathi Natya Parishad and was first to introduce the concept of revolving stage in Marathi theatre.
In his 6 decade long acting career, he has acted in various Marathi, Hindi films and also in TV shows.
He also had appeared in English plays and had translated two of the American playwright and novelist Thornton Wilder’s plays into Marathi.
