Union Government inaugurates Second Liquid Chemical Berth of Mumbai Port Trust
Union Government has inaugurated Second Liquid Chemical Berth of Mumbai Port Trust (MbPT) at Pir Pau, Mumbai.
The facility was inaugurated by Union Shipping Minister Nitin Gadkari.
Facts about Second Liquid Chemical Berth
- The berth is a modern state- of -art facility built at an expense of 127 crore rupees.
- It is equipped with Quick Release Mooring Hooks ( QRMHs) and also with 4 mooring dolphin.
- It is designed to handle 55000 DWT (deadweight tonnes) vessels carrying liquid bulk chemicals and POL (Petroleum, Oil, & Lubricants) products.
- It has been designed keep in view the safety standards conforming to the Oil Industry Safety Directorate (OISD) norms.
Commissioning of this facility will increase existing cargo handling capacity of the Port by 2.5 MMT (Million Metric Tonnes) per annum. It will help in reducing the cost for importers with faster turnaround of ships carrying big parcel size.
