UJALA & SLNP complete Five Successful years of Illuminating India
The Government of India’s zero-subsidy schemes: 1) World’s Largest Domestic Lighting Project named: UJALA- Unnat Jyoti by Affordable LEDs for ALL and 2) World’s Largest Streetlight replacement program: SLNP- Street Lighting National Programme has completed five years on Sunday, 5th January 2020.
Back in 2015, the Prime Minister of India, Narendra Modi has launched the schemes with the objective to convert domestic lights and conventional street lights with energy-efficient LED lights. Both the schemes are implemented across the country under the guidelines of the Ministry of Power by the Energy Efficiency Services Limited (EESL).
To date, 1.03 crore smart LED streetlights under the SLNP scheme have been installed and 36.13 crores LED bulbs under the UJALA initiative have been distributed across India.
Apart from this, the Gram Swaraj Abhiyan(GSA) was implemented in 2018 by the Central Government in which a significantly large number of rural households from 21,058 villages across India were able to purchase LED bulbs at a subsidized rate.
