Sunny Verghese appointed as new chairman of World Business Council for Sustainable Development

Sunny Verghese, co-founder and Group CEO of Singapore-based Olam International was appointed as the new chairman of World Business Council for Sustainable Development (WBCSD). With this, he becomes first ever Asian CEO to be appointed as Chair in the organisation’s 25 years of history. His term will begin on January, 2018 for a duration of two years and will succeed Paul Polman, whose term ends in December 2017.

He is co-founder of Olam International, third largest agri-business company in world. Olam International operates from seed to shelf in 70 countries, supplying food and industrial raw materials to over 16,200 customers worldwide. It is one of the world’s largest suppliers of cocoa beans and products, coffee, cotton and rice.
Sunny Verghese, is a recipient of the Outstanding CEO of the Year award and Public Service Medal from the Government of Singapore. He is also Chairman of International Enterprise Singapore and the Human Capital Leadership Institute.

World Business Council for Sustainable Development (WBCSD)

WBCSD is CEO-led, global advocacy association of some 200 international companies dealing exclusively with business and sustainable development. It has global network of more than 200 CEOs who are responsible for combined revenue of more than $8.5 trillion and 19 million employees.
WBCSD was created in 1995 with merger of Business Council for Sustainable Development and World Industry Council for the Environment. It is based at the Maison de la paix in Geneva, Switzerland, and has offices in New York and New Delhi.
