State level visit to India from Sweden

In December, the King of Sweden, King Carl XVI Gustaf, paid a visit to the Indian President. Sweden is one of the oldest monarchies in the world (about 1,000 years old). The King of Sweden is the head of the state and is also the topmost representative of his country. Swedish monarch is a hereditary monarchy with a parliament. The Swedish Parliament is known as the Riksdag. Sweden is also involved in Indian projects like the Digital India, Smart City Mission, Clean India, Make in India, Start Up India, etc. the countries also cooperate to tackle climate change through their leadership in the Industry Transition Track, under the UN Climate Action Summit. The visit saw the exchange of agreements in the field of polar research, sea-faring and science and technology. The visit was also to pitch the Swedish Gripen fighter jets to India’s defence sector.
