Six Critical Bridges to be unveiled in Jammu and Kashmir

On July 9, 2020, the Union Defence Minister Rajnath Singh is to unveil six critical bridges in the Jammu and Kashmir region. The bridges were constructed by the Border Road Organization (BRO).

Highlights

The bridges were constructed at a cost of Rs 45 crores. They are 100-300 metres in length. The Defence Minister held a review meeting with BRO officials. During the meeting, the projects along LoC (Line of Control) and LAC (Line of Actual Control) were discussed. Mr Singh has directed the officials to fast track the projects across both the borders.

The Minister is to unveil four bridges in Aknoor sector and two in Jammu-Rajpura area.

Work of BRO along the borders

The BRO has executed 30% more work in 2019-20 as compared to 2018-19. The BRO has executed 1,273 km formation cutting, Rs1,715 crores of permanent works, 2,979 km of major bridges, 2,498 km of re-surfacing.

In the last two years the following were surged up under BRO

  • 44% increase in formation cutting
  • 15% increase surfacing
  • 55% increase in permanent works
  • 17% increase in construction of major bridges
