Railways to take food complaints on real time

Railways Minister Pawan Kumar Bansal launched a new food catering policy for providing hygienic food at enhanced prices and to the satisfaction of passengers.

Railways has set up a toll-free phone number (1800111321) to register the complaints about quality, quantity or charges of food on a real-time basis b/w 7 a.m. and 10 p.m.

Overcharging of food items has been a major problem. Now, if extra money has been charged it would be returned. Caterers will have to issue receipts for the food supplied and provide the brand fixed for various food items. This would be to avoid cheating on price and quality. Checking teams would make surprise inspections and exemplary action would be taken against erring caterers.

The caterers will be required to have state-of-the-art base kitchens close to railway stations to prepare first class food untouched by humans, packaged and delivered on conveyor belts. Special emphasis will be on hygienic standards for preparation of food and enhanced standards of checking would be introduced.
