PM Modi to lay Foundation Stone for Manipur Water Supply Project

Prime Minister Narendra Modi is going to lay the foundation stone for the Manipur Water Supply Project to provide water connection to all the households in the state. This is in addition to the Jal Jeevan Mission already undergoing in the state along with the rest of the country.

The Manipur Water Supply Project is an externally funded project and is complementing the existing Jal Jeevan Mission in the state. The main objective of the project is to provide freshwater household tap connections to around 2.80 lakh households in the state, that are outside the ambit of the JJM by the central government.

As part of the Jal Jeevan Mission, the central government is founding the tap connections to 1185 habitations with 1.42 lakhs households and funded by the New Development Bank, this project is covering Greater Imphal Planning Area, 25 towns and 1731 rural habitations in 16 districts of Manipur.

The project is in line with the commitment of the state government to provide freshwater connections to all the households in the state. The total expenditure of the project is pegged at Rs 3054.58 crores and a loan component is being funded by the New Development Bank.
