Mohan Peiris is the new Chief Justice of Sri Lanka
Former attorney general of Sri Lanka, Mohan Peiris, has been appointed as the new Chief Justice of Sri Lanka after the dismissal of former Chief Justice Shirani Bandaranayake following her impeachment.
Peiris has never been on the bench.His appointment is being opposed and protested by the lawyers in the country. Countries such as US United Kingdom, Canada, the European Union, and the United Nations have all issued statements expressing strong concerns about the process.
