Michael Jordan pledges $100 million to promote racial equality

Famous basketball player Michael Jordan and Nike owned Jordan brand recently announced donation of $100 million to organisations promoting racial equality and social justice.

The money will be paid over 10 years with the goal of ensuring racial equality, social justice and improved access to education.

In a joint statement on Twitter, Jordan and the Brand highlighted the importance of black lives and stressed that until racism allows the country’s institutions to fail and needs to be completely eradicated.

The announcement comes following the death of African-American, George Floyd, who died in police custody in US, resulting in a nationwide protest.

Floyd, aged 46, died on May 25 after white police officer, Derek Chauvin, held him down with a knee on his neck, though he repeatedly pleaded, ‘’I can’t breathe’’.
