Loktak Inland waterways project gets approval from the Shipping Ministry

The Ministry of Shipping has given nod for the development of the Loktak Inland Waterways project on Thursday, November 28, 2019.
The project is estimated to cost around Rs 25.58 crores will be developed under the central sector scheme.
The demand over the development of the Loktak inland waterways project has been a long pending demand of the Manipur government to the center.
Loktak lake located in Moirang, Manipur is the largest freshwater lake in Northeast India and is famous for series of floating islands called phumdi over it.
Central sector Scheme is a completely or 100% funded scheme of the Union government whereas, in the centrally sponsored scheme, a certain amount of investment have to be borne by the states.
