International Mountain Day 2019

The International Mountain Day was adopted in 1992 as a part of the action plan Agenda 21 of the conference on Environment and Development.
In 2002, the United Nations declared the year as United Nations International Year of Mountains, following which to further increase the attention to the importance of mountains among the people across the world, the first International Mountain Day was celebrated in the year 2003 as an international observance by the United Nations Member Countries.
The theme for 2019 International Mountain Day: Mountains Matter for Youth
This year’s theme focuses on rural youth, who live in the mountains, encourage them to come forward and demand that mountain peoples and mountains become central in the national and international development agendas for their country, by receiving more attention, tailored research and investments.
