Indian-origin professor Lord Kumar Bhattacharyya awarded Regius Professorship by Queen

Eminent Indian-origin professor Lord Kumar Bhattacharyya has been awarded the prestigious Regius Professorship in Manufacturing by Queen Elizabeth II.
Bhattacharyya who is founder of Warwick Manufacturing Group (WMG) has been granted the Regius Professorship for his outstanding contribution in manufacturing.

About Kumar Bhattacharyya

• Kumar Bhattacharyya is an Indian British engineer, educator and government advisor.
• In his career, he has advised UK government including of former Prime Ministers Margaret Thatcher and Tony Blair on manufacturing, innovation, and technology.
• He is an IIT-Kharagpur alumnus where he had studied Mechanical Engineering. He had moved to UK in the 1960s where he worked as a graduate apprentice for six years at Lucas Industries.
• In 1980, he became Professor of Manufacturing Systems at the University of Warwick and later founded the Warwick Manufacturing Group (WMG).
• In 2004, he was made a life peer as Baron Bhattacharyya of Moseley in the County of West Midlands. He is also a member of the House of Lords.
• In 1997, he was appointed a Commander of the Order of the British Empire and was officially knighted in 2003.

About Regius professor

The Regius professor is a university professor with royal appointment or patronage. It was founded by the Scottish King James IV at Aberdeen University in 1497 and was first presented in the field of medicine. Regius professors are traditionally addressed as Regius and not Professor.
