Government Lays off 129 Non-Performing Officers in Public Interest

According to Union Minister Jitendra Singh, the government has forced 129 government officers to retire for non-performance in the past few months. In total, 30 Group A and 99 Group B officers has been forced to retire in the past few months.
The punishment of compulsory retirement comes as a consequence of the review being done by the central government to check the performance of its officers. The government analyzed the service records of over 24,000 Group A officers and 42,251 Group B officers for performance. As per the government sources, the government will further look into the service records of another 34,451 Group A officers and 42,521 Group B officers. The action comes at the backdrop of government’s move to promote citizen-centric governance.
In 2014, corrupted IAS couple of Madhya Pradesh,  Arvind and Tinoo Joshi, were dismissed from service after the income tax raid in their premises had unearthed disproportionate assets worth Rs 350 crore.

Service review on government employees are usually conducted after 15 years and again after 25 years of completion of qualifying service.
