Government doctors’ retirement age extended to 65 years
Union Government has extended the retirement age of government doctors’ to 65 years with effect from 31 May 2016 to strengthen the healthcare sector in the country.
In this regard, Prime Minister Narendra Modi has approved proposal forwarded by Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare.
The proposal wanted to enhance the age of superannuation of all doctors of the Central Health Service to 65 years. This decision will cover all Government doctors whether serving under States or the Central dispensation.
Benefits of this decision
- Enable the government to retain experienced doctors for a longer period.
- Provide better services in its public health facilities, particularly to the poorest, who are entirely dependent on public facilities.
- It will help in providing additional doctors in the health pool of the country.
- Strengthen the efforts of Health Ministry in conceptualising and rolling out various people-oriented welfare schemes which need the services of doctors in implementing them.
Earlier, Prime Minister Narendra Modi had made announcement regarding enhancing the age of superannuation doctors to 65 years at his Saharanpur rally in Uttar Pradesh.
