First Gauri Lankesh National Award for Journalism awarded to Ravish Kumar

Senior journalist Ravish Kumar was awarded the inaugural Gauri Lankesh Memorial Award in Bengaluru. The award was announced on 5 September 2019 on the 2nd death anniversary of Gauri Lankesh.

Ravish Kumar, the Managing Editor of NDTV India was chosen for the award for sharp news analysis and uncompromising secular stance. Earlier, this year he was also conferred with Ramon Magsaysay award 2019.

About Gauri Lankesh National Award for Journalism

The year 2019 was the first edition of the award. It commemorates the values of democracy and fearless journalism.

The award has been founded in memory of the journalist. It has been set up by the Gauri Lankesh Memorial Trust.

At the award ceremony an English news website in honour of Gauri Lankesh- (www.gaurilankeshnews.com) was also launched which will be managed by the trust. Also, ‘Nyaya Patha’, the newspaper relaunched in memory of Gauri Lankesh.
