The Chief Justice of Egypt’s Supreme Constitutional Court, Adly Mansour has taken over as the interim President of the nation’s hours after the military ousted Islamist President Mohammed Morsy and launched a crackdown on the Muslim Brotherhood, the group from which Mr. Morsy belongs.
The supreme leader of the Brotherhood, Mohammed Badie has also been arrested. Mr. Morsy who a year ago became Egypt’s first freely elected President, has been held in an unknown location since the generals removed him.
The Brotherhood has announced it would boycott the new military-sponsored political process and called on its supporter to restrain themselves and not to use violence.
