Important Facts for Exams

  • Pollination biology: Kiwifruit plants are generally male or female, and most varieties need pollen from a male plant for female plants to produce fruit.
  • Cultivar propagation: Most kiwifruit cultivars are propagated asexually; grafting fruit-bearing plants onto rootstock helps retain the desired cultivar.
  • APEDA statutory basis: The APEDA Act, 1985, constitutes APEDA as a statutory authority responsible for scheduled agricultural and processed-food products.
  • Exporter registration: Section 12 of the APEDA Act requires exporters of scheduled products to register with the Authority before commencing exports.
