Shivappa Nayaka (1645–1660) ousted the Portuguese from Karnataka's west coast, capturing their fortresses and ports, including Mangalore, Gangoli, Barcelor, and Honavar in the 1650s. He implemented the "Sist" revenue system, enhancing agriculture and state revenue, and promoted trade while maintaining a strong navy.
