Notes: In the year 1772, the first Governor-General of Bengal, Warren Hastings shifted all the departments from Murshidabad to Calcutta. From the year 1772 to 1911, Calcutta was the capital of British India. Then it was shifted to Delhi. Later on 13 February 1931, Lord Irwin, the then viceroy of India, inaugurated New Delhi as the new capital of India.
