India Notifies 11 More Ports for E-Visa Entry

India notified 11 more international ports for the entry of foreign nationals holding e-visas on 10 August 2026. The Ministry of Home Affairs expanded the designated entry network to 88 ports, which includes 37 airports, 38 seaports, and 13 land ports.

Designated Entry Points for E-Visa Holders

The 11 newly notified entry points include two airports and nine land ports. The airports are Bhopal in Madhya Pradesh and Tirupati in Andhra Pradesh.

• The nine land ports are Attari (Road), Agartala, Darranga, Gede, Ghojadanga, Haridaspur, Jaigaon, Dawki, and Moreh.
• These ports are now part of India’s official entry system for foreign nationals using the e-visa facility.

E-Visa System in India

India launched the e-visa facility in 2014 for nationals of 43 countries. The system has since expanded to citizens of 172 countries across 17 sub-categories, including tourism, business, medical, student, and transit travel.

The Ministry of Home Affairs stated that India processes about 95% of e-visa applications within 72 hours. Electronic visas now account for roughly 78% of all visas issued by India.

Eligibility and Exclusions

Government guidelines state that travellers holding a Pakistani passport or those of Pakistani origin are not eligible for the e-visa facility. Such applicants must apply for a regular visa at an Indian Mission.

The e-visa facility remains a separate category from regular paper visas issued through Indian diplomatic missions and consulates.
