Sigma and Munitions India to Develop 155 mm Artillery Fuzes

Sigma Advanced Systems Limited (SASL) and state-owned Munitions India Limited (MIL) signed an exclusive Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on 14 October 2026. The collaboration covers integration, indigenous manufacturing and supply of 155 mm artillery Course Correction Fuzes (CCF), along with associated components, subsystems and technologies.

155 mm Artillery and Course Correction

The 155 mm designation refers to the nominal calibre of the artillery weapon and ammunition. Course correction technology enables a projectile to make adjustments during flight, with the objective of improving its accuracy compared with an unguided trajectory. The planned CCF programme concerns guided artillery shells and precision-guided artillery ammunition.

Sigma’s contribution includes engineering, programme execution and indigenously developed technology. The company will bring its Course Correction Guidance Kit, a solution already used by international customers, into the technology collaboration. The MoU also covers technology transfer, qualification and integration of course correction solutions in India.

Roles of the Partner Organisations

Munitions India Limited will contribute its ammunition manufacturing infrastructure and experience in supplying the Indian Armed Forces. The collaboration is intended to develop indigenous capabilities in precision-guided artillery ammunition and support critical programmes of the Indian military through technology development, integration and localisation.

The programme is aligned with the Government of India’s Make in India and Atmanirbhar Bharat policies, which support domestic production and self-reliance. Local manufacturing and qualification are among the activities covered by the MoU.

Defence Manufacturing Context

Artillery ammunition includes the projectile and its associated components, while guidance and course correction systems are used to alter a projectile’s flight path. The partnership combines Sigma’s engineering and guidance technology with MIL’s established ammunition manufacturing infrastructure. The stated scope covers 155 mm CCF and related components, subsystems and technologies.
