RRP Defense Secures ₹29.83 Crore Order from Bharat Electronics

RRP Defense Limited received a purchase order worth ₹29,83,81,230, or about ₹29.83 crore, plus applicable GST, from Bharat Electronics Limited on 20 May 2026. Bharat Electronics Limited is a Government of India enterprise engaged in defence electronics and related systems.

Order Scope and Product Details

The contract covers the supply of high-precision germanium lenses. The specified items are GE SF Lens 1 (Ø50X6.0) and GE SF Lens 2 (Ø26X4.5). Germanium lenses are used in infrared and thermal imaging systems because germanium transmits infrared radiation.

Use in Defence Electronics

Infrared and thermal imaging systems are used in thermal cameras, surveillance systems, weapon sights, and target acquisition equipment. These systems are part of electro-optics, a field that combines optics, sensors, and electronic components for detection and imaging.

Delivery Schedule and Manufacturing Terms

RRP Defense will design, engineer, and customise the lenses to meet Bharat Electronics Limited’s technical requirements. Initial sample quantities will be supplied first, and the first lot of bulk deliveries is expected within 8 to 10 weeks from receipt of the order. Phased monthly deliveries are scheduled until December 2026.

Industrial and Strategic Context

The order is linked to India’s defence manufacturing ecosystem, which includes indigenous production of components for military and security applications. Make in India is a Government of India initiative launched in 2014, and Atmanirbhar Bharat is a policy framework announced in 2020 for self-reliance in manufacturing and strategic sectors.

Related Agreement

The contract follows a Memorandum of Understanding between Bharat Electronics Limited and the RRP Group for cooperation in semiconductors, electro-optics, unmanned systems, and other advanced defence technologies.
