Purba Bardhaman Innovator Wins International Award for Blood-Clotting Technology
On 4 November 2026, Sabir Hossain, an innovator from Badulia village in the Khandaghosh block of Purba Bardhaman district, West Bengal, received the top prize in the Health and Biomedical category at Slingshot 2026 in Singapore.
Blood-clotting technology
Hossain’s startup, Miracules Medsolutions, developed StopBleed, a powder designed to control severe bleeding within 60 seconds. The product uses nano-biopolymers that rapidly absorb blood plasma and trap blood cells, accelerating the body’s natural clotting process. It has been approved by the Central Drugs Standard Control Organisation (CDSCO).
Slingshot 2026 attracted more than 5,000 startups worldwide. Along with the award, Miracules Medsolutions received a grant of 400,000 Singapore dollars.
Important Facts for Exams
- Cellular and protein components: Coagulation combines cellular components, including platelets, with protein-based clotting factors.
- Primary and secondary haemostasis: Platelets first form a temporary plug; clotting factors then generate fibrin strands that strengthen it.
- Fibrin stabilisation: Near the end of the clotting cascade, factor XIIIa cross-links fibrin, stabilising the clot as it temporarily seals the wound.
