Important Facts for Exams
- Radial and network layouts: Radial networks give each customer one supply source; network systems use multiple sources operating in parallel.
- Emergency reconfiguration: Radial systems can use emergency connections and switches to isolate a faulty section and reconfigure the remaining distribution network.
- 33 kV distribution tier: In Indian distribution systems, 33 kV commonly serves as a sub-transmission level, stepping down at substations to 11 kV feeders supplying local distribution transformers.
- Distribution licensee’s statutory duty: Under India’s Electricity Act 2003, a distribution licensee must maintain an efficient, coordinated distribution system and supply electricity within its licensed area.
