Yogi inaugurates first phase of Gorakhpur drain project and launches sewerage and road works
Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath inaugurated the completed first phase of the Godhoiya drain project in Gorakhpur on 1 November 2026 and laid the foundation stone for its second phase.
Drainage and sewerage works
Adityanath said the project had addressed drainage problems in 17 Gorakhpur wards. Its first phase included an approximately 7.75-kilometre reinforced cement concrete (RCC) drain.
He also laid the foundation stone for Zone A-3 works under the Gorakhpur sewerage scheme, estimated to cost ₹721.40 crore, and a road along the Godhoiya drain, estimated at ₹65.93 crore.
Important Facts for Exams
- Compression and tension: Reinforced concrete combines concrete’s resistance to compression with reinforcement that enables the composite to resist bending and tensile forces.
- Bond and load transfer: In reinforced concrete, bond between steel and concrete transfers stress at their interface, helping the two materials act together under load.
- Combined and separate sewers: Sewerage networks may carry sewage and stormwater together, or route sewage through sanitary sewers and runoff through separate storm drains.
