Jindal Steel Wins 2026 Worldsteel Steelie Award
Jindal Steel Limited won the 2026 Steelie Award for “Excellence in People” for its “Dakshata Engineering Safety: One Duty Position at a Time” programme. The World Steel Association announced the winners of the 17th Steelie Awards on 12 October 2026 in New Delhi.
World Steel Association and Steelie Awards
The World Steel Association, also known as worldsteel, is an international industry association for the steel sector. Its membership includes steel producers, national and regional steel industry associations, and research institutes. The Steelie Awards recognise achievements by member companies in areas including safety, sustainability, communications and innovation. The 2026 award recognised Jindal Steel’s programme under the “Excellence in People” category. The award was given for a workforce safety initiative designed around the duties and risks associated with individual job roles.
Competency-Based Workplace Safety
The Dakshata programme replaces generic safety training with role-specific learning and verified competency. It sets out the safety knowledge, practical skills, emergency preparedness and workplace behaviours required for each duty position. The programme assesses employees, identifies competency gaps, assigns targeted development and reassesses proficiency before employees are deployed. This process creates a continuing cycle of assessment, training and reassessment. Competency-based training links an employee’s preparation to defined work tasks and required capabilities. In industrial workplaces, safety systems can include hazard identification, safe operating procedures, emergency response and the use of protective equipment.
Safety Measures at Raipur Machinery Division
During financial year 2025–26, Jindal Steel’s Raipur Machinery Division recorded 17,752 safety observations. The division used AI-enabled workplace observations to support the programme and eliminated or mechanised 379 high-risk tasks. Mechanisation replaces or reduces direct human involvement in selected work processes, while safety observations record workplace conditions and practices for review. The reported figures relate specifically to the Raipur Machinery Division during FY 2025–26.
