Visakhapatnam Port Gets ₹335-Crore Internal Flyover

The Ministry of Ports, Shipping and Waterways approved a ₹334.89-crore internal flyover project for the Visakhapatnam Port Authority on 11 August 2026. The project covers a 3.584-kilometre elevated corridor between Convent Junction and the Dock Area at Visakhapatnam Port.

Project Layout and Scope

The proposed corridor is designed as an internal port link for cargo movement. The project includes civil works, electrical works, utility shifting, safety installations, and five years of post-construction maintenance.

Traffic and Operational Features

The flyover will separate road and rail traffic within the port area. It will bypass nine railway level crossings that record about 18 gate closures each day.

Approval and Timeframe

Union Minister Sarbananda Sonowal approved the project after appraisal by the Delegated Investment Board. The Delegated Investment Board was chaired by the Secretary of the Ministry of Ports, Shipping and Waterways. The construction period has been fixed at 30 months from the formal commencement of work.
