Ashok Patnaik, a 1983-batch Gujarat cadre IPS officer, has been appointed as the new Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the National Intelligence Grid (NATGRID) and will hold charge till December 31, 2018. He is the son-in-law of former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh. Currently, Patnaik is posted as Additional Director in the Intelligence Bureau (IB). The NATGRID is an ambitious intelligence network project to strengthen counter-terror capabilities of law enforcement agencies.

K V R Murthy has been appointed as the new Chairman-cum-Managing Director (CMD) of Jute Corporation of India Ltd. (JCI). His appointment is for a period of 5 years or till the date of his superannuation. Prior of this appointment, he was the Chief Commercial Manager of Eastern Railways. The JCI is an agency of the government of India that assists jute cultivators in states where this crop is grown and provides minimum price support. The headquarters is at Kolkata, West Bengal.

The Indian Government has started the operation “Sankat Mochan” to evacuate Indian nationals from war-torn African country South Sudan. The operation is being headed by Minister of State for External Affairs General (Retd.) Vijay Kumar Singh. Two C-17 military transport aircrafts have been pressed in service to make the evacuation. There are around 600 Indians in South Sudan, of them 450 are in Juba (capital city of South Sudan) and nearly 150 are outside Juba.

After acquisition, Grama Vidiyal will become a wholly-owned subsidiary of IDFC Bank and will act as a dedicated Business Correspondent (BC) of the bank. It will expand the delivery mechanism for the services of IDFC Bank. The acquisition will help IDFC Bank to increase its network and reach to a large customer base in India. With this, IDFC Bank can access Grama Vidiyal’s network of 1.2 million households in 319 rural and semi-urban areas across 65 districts of Tamil Nadu, Kerala, Karnataka, Pondicherry, Maharashtra, Gujarat and Madhya Pradesh.
