UIDAI Enables Aadhaar Email Update Through App
The Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) enabled residents to add or update email IDs in Aadhaar through the Aadhaar mobile application on 1 July 2026. The facility is free of cost for six months, up to 31 December 2026, and it removes the need to visit Aadhaar enrolment or update centres for email changes.
Aadhaar and Demographic Updates
Aadhaar is a 12-digit unique identity number issued under the Aadhaar (Targeted Delivery of Financial and Other Subsidies, Benefits and Services) Act, 2016. Email ID is one of the demographic details linked with Aadhaar, along with name, address, date of birth, gender, and mobile number.
Digital Update Facility
The Aadhaar mobile application is available on Android through the Google Play Store and on Apple iOS through the App Store. The app also supports other update-related services, including mobile number and address updates, subject to UIDAI rules and verification requirements.
Fee Structure and Service Access
The standard fee of Rs 75 for email updates is waived for updates made only through the app during the six-month period. Aadhaar Seva Kendras continue to charge a Rs 50 demographic update fee for applicable offline updates.
Authentication and Security Features
Linking an email ID with Aadhaar enables email notifications when an Aadhaar authentication request is carried out. Aadhaar authentication is used for identity verification in services linked to subsidies, banking, telecom, and government welfare delivery.
Usage and Administrative Context
The Ministry of Electronics & IT announced the online update facility on 3 July 2026. More than 2.5 lakh email updates were recorded in the first two days of the service, from 1 July to 2 July 2026.
