Telangana Launches Devadurga Gold and Copper Exploration

Telangana launched a gold and copper mining exploration programme at Lingadahalli village in Devadurga taluk of Raichur district, Karnataka, on 27 August 2026. The project covers 199.13 square kilometres and marks the first entry of Singareni Collieries Company Limited into critical and strategic mineral exploration.

Devadurga Mineral Block

Devadurga is a mineral-bearing area in Raichur district of Karnataka. The exploration block for gold and copper spans 199.13 square kilometres and was allotted through an auction conducted by the Union Ministry of Mines.

Singareni Collieries Company Limited

Singareni Collieries Company Limited is a state-owned coal mining enterprise with more than 136 years of history. The company is known for coal mining and has now entered exploration for gold and copper in Karnataka.

Exploration Agreement and Administrative Steps

An exploration agreement for the Devadurga block was signed in Bengaluru on 6 August 2026 between Karnataka Mines and Geology Department Director Rangappa and SCCL Director K. Venkateshwarlu. On 15 August 2026, SCCL Chairman and Managing Director Dr. Buddha Prakash Jyoti announced the exploration licence during Independence Day celebrations.

Officials were directed to set up a dedicated site office and a helipad in Devadurga for field operations. Such arrangements are used in remote mining areas for transport, supervision and logistical support.

Mineral exploration in India is regulated through licences and auctions under the Union Ministry of Mines. Exploration blocks are identified for geological survey, resource estimation and future extraction planning.
