Telangana approves ₹1,720.83 crore streetlight maintenance project for three Hyderabad-area corporations

On 4 November 2026, the Telangana government granted administrative approval for a 10-year streetlight maintenance project covering three corporations in the Hyderabad-area Core Urban Region. The revised approved cost is ₹1,720.83 crore; an earlier approval of ₹1,341.60 crore was issued on 6 March 2026.

Contract and monitoring arrangements

The government directed that the work be awarded to BAC Infratech, which quoted the lowest price in the tender process. The three corporations together have 7.6 lakh streetlights. The contractor is to begin work in December, following completion of the agreement process by the end of November.

The contract requires 98% of the lights to function daily. The contractor will repair failed lights and address related complaints. Separate dashboards are to be developed for the three corporations, with the lights linked to control units within six months. Osmania University has been assigned third-party assessment of the contractor’s performance.
