Rural Development Ministry Notifies VB–G RAM G Grievance Rules
On 2 November 2026, the Ministry of Rural Development notified the Viksit Bharat – Guarantee for Rozgar and Ajeevika Mission (Gramin): VB–G RAM G – Grievance Redressal Rules, 2026. The Rules establish a structured, multi-tier and time-bound mechanism for grievances concerning implementation of the VB–G RAM G Scheme.
Grievance redressal at three levels
State Governments must establish grievance redressal mechanisms at Gram Panchayat, Block and District levels. Designated Grievance Redressal Officers will receive, register, enquire into and dispose of grievances. The District Programme Coordinator will oversee redressal at district level.
Submission channels and deadlines
Grievances may be submitted in person, by speed post, through designated Digital Public Infrastructure, by telephone or via helplines. Enquiries must be completed within seven working days, and grievances resolved within 15 days of receipt. The designated digital infrastructure will support mandatory registration, tracking and escalation of unresolved cases. Complainants will receive an acknowledgement with a registration number and date of receipt.
Important Facts for Exams
- Digital infrastructure layer: Digital public infrastructure can act as an intermediate layer in the digital ecosystem, enabling applications across public sectors.
- District coordination appointment: Under MGNREGA, states designate a District Programme Coordinator to ensure district implementation; the Act does not make the post inherently synonymous with the District Collector.
- Social audit distinction: Under MGNREGA, section 17 requires the Gram Sabha to monitor works and conduct regular social audits within the Gram Panchayat, providing community oversight distinct from individual grievance adjudication.
- Local project planning: MGNREGA assigns Gram Panchayats responsibility for identifying works from Gram Sabha recommendations and preparing annual plans, linking local demand-setting with programme design.
