RBI Appoints Ravi Shankar as Executive Director

The Reserve Bank of India appointed Ravi Shankar as Executive Director with effect from 1 July 2026. He previously served as Adviser-in-Charge of the Department of Statistics and Information Management at the RBI and will continue to oversee the same department in his new role.

Executive Director in the RBI

Executive Director is a senior management position in the Reserve Bank of India. The RBI has several Executive Directors who head major departments such as statistics, payment systems, banking regulation, and monetary policy support functions.

Department of Statistics and Information Management

The Department of Statistics and Information Management, commonly known as DSIM, handles statistical data collection, compilation, and analysis at the RBI. The department deals with banking statistics, corporate statistics, surveys, and data used for monetary and financial analysis.

Career and Academic Background

Ravi Shankar is a career central banker and statistician with more than three decades of experience at the RBI. His work experience includes corporate and banking statistics, government securities market, settlement systems, debt management, and surveys. He holds a Master’s Degree in Statistics from Banaras Hindu University and a Diploma in Development Policy and Planning from the Institute of Economic Growth, Delhi.
